What are Kemgard® molybdate smoke suppressants?

Kemgard® molybdate compounds are cost-effective smoke suppressants based on patented surface treatment technology. The Kemgard® smoke suppressant product chemistries include zinc molybdate, calcium zinc molybdate and zinc oxide/phosphate complexes.

The Kemgard® products are designed to replace more expensive bulk molybdate compounds (ammonium octamolybdate – AOM) with less expensive core/shell structures where an active phase (molybdate) is deposited on the surface of core particles, such as magnesium hydroxide, calcium carbonate, talc and zinc oxide. Kemgard® molybdate smoke suppressants are highly efficient and effective in rigid and flexible PVC and a myriad of other applications.

For rigid and low-smoke flexible PVC

Huber Advanced Materials is an expert in the development of molybdate smoke suppressants.

Developed around an active core material that further improves their efficiency, Kemgard® molybdate smoke suppressants have been shown to partially or fully replace ammonium octamolybdate (AOM), antimony trioxide (ATO) and zinc borate in many rigid and low-smoke flexible PVC applications. The result is desirable smoke suppression performance, lower costs and fewer regulatory concerns.

Kemgard® molybdate smoke suppressants work well with blends of both alumina trihydrate (ATH) and magnesium hydroxide (MDH) to help you achieve your target levels of smoke suppression in rigid and low-smoke flexible PVC.

Kemgard® molybdate smoke suppressants for PVC are manufactured by a patented process in which molybdates are precipitated on a functional core material. This “coated core” approach makes more efficient use of the molybdate species by maximizing its active surface area while combining it with a selected core material that can offer secondary benefits like additional fire retardancy or improved processability.
